What Goes Into a Walk-In Closet?
A walk-in closet is a dedicated dressing room — typically converted from a spare bedroom, extended from a master bedroom wall, or built into a new construction alcove. Unlike a built-in wardrobe that fits within a single wall, a walk-in closet uses all four walls (or three walls in an L or U layout) to maximize storage.
Standard Walk-In Closet Zones
- Long-hang section: Full-length dresses, coats, and formal wear. 1800mm height minimum rail clearance.
- Double-hang section: Two rails stacked — shirts on top, trousers or folded items below. Most space-efficient for everyday clothing.
- Shelf towers: Folded clothes, bags, accessories. Adjustable shelf heights.
- Shoe shelves: Angled or flat shelves at eye level and below. Typically 300mm deep.
- Island unit: Central drawers for jewelry, undergarments, and folded items. Available with glass-top display surface.
- Vanity area: Mirror, drawer unit, and seat — the dressing table integrated into the closet system.
Walk-In Closet Materials
We build walk-in closets using 18mm marine plywood carcasses with melamine or HPL interior lining. All hanging rails are aluminum with a 20kg load rating. Drawer units use Blum TANDEM soft-close slides rated for 40kg per drawer.
